Some ceilings are there to be punched through.

Others are there for our own good.

The same covering that stops us from seeing the stars above keeps the rain off our heads when it’s pouring down.

Some floors are there to serve as our foundation. A base we can build on, rely on, and return to whenever needed.

Others are a holdover from a different time and a different place. The last vestige of an alternative way of being that no longer serves us – but by merely existing, it continues to take a toll on our resources.

One person’s ceiling is another person’s floor.

The limits we’re burdened with, cast in a new light, can be something we use for our own good. A source of strength and stability that remains unmoving in the face of an ever changing circumstances all around it.

Perspective shapes experience.

The label is a fable.

But the story that springs from it – the one we tell ourselves and repeat to other people in order to affirm our worldview – is all too real.

When we know this, we’re more careful about wielding our words.

Because the same outbreath that sets us free can consign us to ongoing suffering with the slightest change.
