About Me 🤔

Professional Background

I entered the world of professional services as a freelance content writer back in 2016 to earn some side income while in college.

8 years later, I’ve had the chance to work with dozens of businesses across multiple industries, doing everything from simple proofreading to ghostwriting full books, developing in-depth GTM strategy for burgeoning startups and end-to-end project management for enterprise software projects.

In this time, I’ve:

  • Worked solo
  • Managed teams of 10-15 people
  • Single-tasked for months on end
  • Managed dozens of concurrent projects
  • Collaborated with world-class people doing outstanding work
  • Worked with people in bad situations just trying to get by

In between these extremes, I’ve found balance – and learned lessons I’ll always carry with me.

Today

I run Soul & Compass, a boutique HI/HX studio based in the west of Ireland.

Working with my partner Aisling, we help enterprise training businesses increase impact without compromising on the things they do best.

Our typical engagements start with a “getting to know you” phase to establish common ground. If there’s mutual fit, we then take an iterative sprint approach to completing our work. Our projects usually include elements of strategy, brand development, marketing and holistic asset architecture.

Other Interests

When I’m not working, there’s a good chance you’ll find me spending time on the following:

Floating Through Inner Space

I’ve meditated, journaled, and regularly engaged in various self-reflective practices over the past 11 years. I got started by meditating for 168 days out of 170 in 2013 and haven’t looked back since.

Over the years, I’ve used a variety of guided meditation tools, apps and programs. I can personally recommend Calm and Headspace as solid, accessible options for most people. These days, I go for something simpler: I set my phone’s default stopwatch app for 10-20 mins and focus on my breath whenever I need to.

The most impactful thing I’ve ever done on a personal basis was complete a 70-day run of the “Presence Process” by Michael Brown in 2022.

I’ll share more about my experience in the future. For now, all I’ll say is this: if you’ve been searching for something like this, consider it. It just might change your life.

Physical Self-Expression

I’m a firm believer in the holistic benefits of consistent training.

Most modern lifestyles are low on physical stress, but high on psychological stress. Without an outlet to release this energy, it turns inwards. This causes a multitude of problems.

I’ve found that simple interventions like using a standing desk, taking regular walks and getting in a little movement on a daily basis go a long way.

Sustainability

At Soul & Compass, we set aside 5% of our total revenue to support sustainability and CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives. We use these funds to finance projects conducted by great partners like One Tree Planted, Mossy Earth, and the World Wildlife Federation.

Closer to home, we regularly support the good work done by domestic organisations like Saint Vincent de Paul and Trócaire.

On a personal basis, I have a keen interest in clean energy tech, and I see value in the “Leave No Trace” philosophy.

We’re not The Last Generation. More will follow. It’s our duty to keep the house in order until it’s time to hand over the keys.

This Site

This site is a garden: a living thing that evolves as I plant new seeds, water old ones, and let Nature take its course. As such, don’t expect the topics I talk about or the overall focus to remain rigid over time.

As someone that spends hours per day on screens, minimising eye strain is important to me. That’s why the only font you see on this site is Lexend – a font designed specifically for readability.

This site was designed by my partner Aisling O’Rourke and built by Richard Peck of Frontline Utilities using WordPress and the Kadence theme.
